2012 General Election - Saturday November 17, 2012
The Presidential and Parliamentary Elections was held on Nov 17,2012.A coalition of non-governmental organisations, National Election Watch, said the voting went well, with some delays in opening polling stations.

The results have to be declared within 10 days of voting taking place.

Incumbent President Ernest Bai Koroma(All People Congress) faces eight candidates, including ex-military leader Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone  People's Party

The three main parties in the running are -
Koroma's All People's Congress (APC)
Bio's Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) and
 the People's Movement for Democratic Change (PMDC)

Ernest Bai Koroma Wins Presidential Poll

 

Sierra Leone's incumbent President Ernest Bai Koroma has won the presidential election, the election commission has said.

He received almost 59% of votes cast, meaning there is no need for a run-off as he won more than 55%.
His main challenger, ex-military ruler Julius Maada Bio, took 38% of the ballots in Saturday's peaceful poll.
It was the third election since the 1991-2002 civil war, which killed more than 50,000 people.
