Cannes International Film Festival

The Cannes International Film Festival (French: Le Festival International du Film de Cannes or just Festival de Cannes), is an Annual Film Festival held in Cannes,France which previews new films of all genres including documentaries from around the world.
Founded in 1946, it is the world's most prestigious and publicized film festival.
The invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres


 










The festival has become an important showcase for European films.
The most prestigious award given out at Cannes is the Palme d'Or ("Golden Palm") for the best film.

The Tree of Life(2011)won the Palme d'Or Award at the 2011 Cannes International Film Festival.


The film Written and Directed by Terrence Malick and starring Sean Penn,Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain chronicles the origins and meaning of life by way of a middle-aged man's childhood memories of his family living in 1950s Texas, interspersed with imagery of the origins of the universe and the inception of life on Earth.
In January 2012, the film received 3 Academy Award Nominations for -

Best Director and
Best Cinematography 

2012 Cannes International Film Festival - May 16 to May 27, 2012
Italian Film Director Nanni Moretti has been announced as the President of the Jury for the main competition


British Actor Tim Roth has been announced as the President of the Jury for the Un Certain Regard  section.

French Actress Berenice Bejo has been announced to Host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

The 65the Cannes International Film Festival was held from May 16 - 27, 2012.

The Palm d'Or was awarded to Austrian Director Michael Haneke  for his film Love,a French Film(Director Michael Haneke previously won the Palme d'Or  for ''The White Ribbon'' in 2009)
 


The Jury gave the Grand Prize to Matteo Garrone's ''Reality" an Italian Drama Film and

Ken Loach's ''The Angel's Share''( a Scottish comedy-drama film in English) was awarded the Jury Prize
 

Best Actress - Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan for '' Beyond the Hills'',a Romanian Drama Film
 










Best Actor - Mads Mikkelsen for ''The Hunt'',a Danish Drama Film


Best Director - Carlos Reygadas for ''Post Tenebras Lux'',a Spanish Drama Film


Best Screenplay -Cristian Mungiu for ''Beyond the Hills'',a Romanian Drama Film
