Burkina Faso also known by its short-form name Burkina – is a landlocked country in West Africa.
Formerly called the Republic of Upper Volta, it was re-named on Aug 04, 1984, by President Thomas Sankara to mean "the land of upright people" in Moore and Dioula, the major native languages of the country. Figuratively, "Burkina" may be translated, "men of integrity", from the Mòoré language, and "Faso" means "father's house" in Dioula.
Burkina Faso is divided into 13 Regions, 45 Provinces, and 301 Departments.

Burkina Faso is a Presidential Republic where the President is head of State and head of Govt and of a multi-party system.

The president is elected by popular vote for a five-year term and may serve up to two terms.

Blaise Compaoré is the current President of  Burkina Faso holding the office from Oct 15,1987 and having won elections in 1991, 1998, 2005, and 2010.

The prime minister is appointed by the president with the consent of the legislature.

Luc-Adolphe Tiao is the current Prime Minister of Burkina Faso holding the office from April 18,2011

 National Assembly of Burkina Faso
The parliament consists of one chamber known as the National Assembly which has 111 seats with members elected to serve five year terms. There is also a constitutional chamber, composed of ten members, and an economic and social council whose roles are purely consultative.
