Indian batsman Rohit Sharma on Wednesday Oct 02,2019 became the first player from
the country to score a century in all three formats of the game as an
opener when he smashed an unbeaten knock during the first Test of the
three-match series against South Africa at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in

The 32-year-old first pulled back his 11th Test half-century before

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections dropped sharply to a
19-month low of Rs 91,916 crore in Sep'19, mirroring a widening

according to official data released by the finance ministry.

The finance ministry on Wednesday Oct 02,2019 said companies opting for the lower
corporate tax rate of 22 percent will not be allowed to reduce their
tax liability by claiming deductions towards additional depreciation and
Minimum Alternative Tax (MAT) credits.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), in a clarification, said
companies will be allowed to utilise such credits only against regular
taxes under the old regime and may opt for lower corporate tax regime in
the subsequent assessment years.
There is no timeline within which the option under newly inserted 115BAA in the Income Tax Act can be exercised, it added.
Under Section 115BAA, it was stated that companies opting for a lower
tax rate of 22 percent will not be allowed to claim any deduction or
exemption. It gave the companies the right to exercise the option before
furnishing the income tax return. It was also stipulated that the
option, once exercised, cannot be withdrawn in subsequent years.
The section does not provide any timeline for companies to opt for the new regime of the lower tax rate
Responding to clarification sought by companies if they would be
allowed to reduce their tax liability by adjusting losses on account of
additional depreciation and take advantage of MAT credit, the CBDT said,
"… a domestic company which would exercise option for availing benefit
of lower tax rate under section 115BAA shall not be allowed to claim
set-off of any brought forward loss on account of additional
depreciation for an Assessment Year for which the option has been
exercised and for any subsequent Assessment Year."
As regards MAT, the CBDT said "the tax credit of MAT paid by the
domestic company exercising option under section 115BAA of the Act shall
not be available consequent to exercising of such option (relating to
lower tax rate)."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off Vande Bharat Express from the New Delhi Railway Station Thursday Oct 03,2019
Speaking at the inauguration
ceremony, Amit Shah said it was a 'big gift' for Jammu and Kashmir's
development. "Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express is a big gift for Jammu
and Kashmir's development and for promoting religious tourism," said
Amit Shah.
At the flagging off ceremony, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal,
Union Ministers Dr Jitendra Singh and Dr Harsh Vardhan were also
present.
This is the second Vande Bharat Express
The first one runs in between Delhi and Varanasi. The first commercial
run of the train will start from 5th October and booking of tickets has
opened on IRCTC website. The train will bring down the travel time
between Delhi and Katra to eight hours from 12 hours.
Train number
22439 New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express will depart from the New
Delhi Railway Station at 6 am to reach Katra at 2 pm. En route, the
train will halt at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi for two minutes
each.
On the return journey the same day, train number 22440
Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express will leave from the Katra Railway
Station at 3 pm to reach the New Delhi Railway Station at 11 pm.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday Oct 02,2019 announced a list of
77 candidates, featuring senior leaders Ajit Pawar, Jayant Patil and
Chhagan Bhujbal.
Sharad Pawar's grand-nephew Rohit Pawar will make his electoral
debut from Karjat Jamkhed in Ahmednagar district against Ram Shinde,
sitting BJP MLA and minister. Ajit Pawar, former deputy chief minister
who resigned from the Assembly after being named by the Enforcement
Directorate in the multi-crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam,
will contest from Baramati.
State NCP chief Jayant Patil will contest from Islampur, and Bhujbal
from Yeola. Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Dhananjay
Munde, will contest from Parli.
Mumbai NCP president Nawab Malik will contest from Anushaktinagar
in Mumbai. From Kej, the party has fielded Prithviraj Sathe. Earlier,
it had announced Namita Mundada's candidature, but she joined the BJP.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will take place on October 24.
The Congress released its second list of 52 candidates for the
Maharashtra Assembly elections on Tuesday night Oct 01,2019, fielding former chief
minister Prithviraj Chavan from the Karad South constituency.
Chavan's name was missing in the first list as the party wanted
him to contest the by-election for Satara Lok Sabha seat, necessitated
by the resignation of sitting NCP MP Udayanraje Bhosale who joined the
BJP.
But Chavan, a former Union minister, declined, and said his focus was
on the Assembly. He will now seek a second term in the Assembly from
Karad South.
Another prominent name in the party's second list is Dhiraj
Deshmukh, the youngest son of former chief minister late Vilasrao
Deshmukh. Dhiraj will make his electoral debut from Latur Rural
constituency.
Dhiraj's elder brother, Amit, is seeking a third term from Latur
city. If both manage to win, there will be a pair of brothers in the
state assembly for the first time.
The list also includes the name of journalist Yuvraj Mohite who will contest from Goregaon in Mumbai.
The Congress, struggling to pose a challenge to the ruling
BJP-Shiv Sena amid the exit of some prominent leaders ahead of the
polls, released its first list of 51 candidates on Sunday. It featured
former chief minister Ashok Chavan and state party chief Vijay alias
Balasaheb Thorat.
Elections for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will be held on
October 21 and results will be out on October 24.
The last date for
filing the nominations is October 4.
School education minister Vinod Tawde, power minister Chandrashekar
Bawankule and senior leader Eknath Khadse did not figure in the BJP's
second list of 14 candidates for the Oct 21 Maharashtra Assembly
elections.
The list was released on Wednesday night. Interestingly, Namita
Mundada, who joined the saffron party after the NCP chief Sharad Pawar
announced her candidature from Kej seat, is in the BJP's second list
Similarly, Gopichand Padalkar who contested on the Vanchit Bahujan
Aghadi ticket from Sangli during the Lok Sabha elections (and lost),
finds his name in the BJP's list. He will contest from Baramati.
Senior Congress legislator Gopaldas Agarwal, who crossed over to the BJP recently, will contest from Gondia.
