State Bank of India(SBI) Savings Account - Minimum Balance Fine And Other Details

State Bank of India(SBI)customers holding savings bank accounts with India's largest lender have to pay fine for not complying with minimum balance rules.

SBI, which recently unveiled a new identity after its merger with six other banks, charges the customers on the basis of where their accounts are located. In case the minimum balance in an SBI savings bank account - in metro, urban, semi-urban or rural areas - drops below a particular threshold, a fee is levied on the account holder.

Monthly average balance or MAB is the average of daily balances in the account during the month.

For example, SBI customers in metros are required to maintain a monthly average balance of Rs. 5,000.

But what are the fines like? Let's take a detailed look at these requirements.

SBI requires its savings bank account customers in metros to maintain a monthly average balance of Rs. 5,000. In case the monthly average comes out to be between Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 5,000 - a shortfall of less than 50 per cent, a charge of Rs. 50 plus service tax will be levied, SBI said. For those with a shortfall of between 50 and 75 per cent (MAB from Rs. 1,250 to Rs. 2,500), a fee of Rs. 75 plus service tax will be charged, and Rs. 100 plus service tax for those keeping an average less than Rs. 749 (more than 75 per cent shortfall).

Meanwhile, SBI offers other types of accounts where it customers are not required to maintain a minimum balance. Small savings bank account and basic savings account are two such products offered SBI.

State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore, besides Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMB), became part of SBI with effect from April 1. After the merger, SBI has entered the league of top 50 global banks with a balance sheet size of Rs. 41 lakh crore, 2.77 lakh employees, 50 crore customers, over 22,500 branches and 58,000 ATMs.

Petrol price hiked by 1 paisa, diesel by 44 paise a litre

Petrol Price was on Sunday April 30,2017 hiked by a marginal 1 paisa per litre and diesel by 44 paisa a litre, the second increase in rates this month.

The hike, which will be effective from Sunday midnight, comes on the back of Rs 1.39 per litre increase in petrol and Rs 1.04 a litre raise in diesel rates effected from April 16.

IOC, the nation's largest fuel retailer, said the price of petrol is being increased by Rs 0.01 per litre and that of diesel by Rs 0.44 -- both excluding state levies.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan ahead of his delegation level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday May 01,2017

He is in India on a two-day visit. Erdogan later paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi at Raj Ghat.

A number of agreements are likely to be signed between the two countries today. The Turkish President is accompanied by senior cabinet ministers and a 150-member business delegation that will take part in a meeting of the India-Turkey Business Forum.

The two countries will discuss key bilateral and regional issues, including India’s NSG membership bid and ways to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism and trade. India-Turkey economic and commercial cooperation constitutes an important dimension of the bilateral relationship. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will also meet Turkish President today.

Trade and bilateral ties between two countries have strengthened significantly which includes visits by President Pranab Mukherjee to Turkey in 2013 and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s working visit in 2015.

This is Erdogan’s first foreign visit after winning a referendum in his country.

“Forward, together,” Renzi tweeted, invigorated by his comeback after a stinging defeat in a December reforms referendum aimed in part at streamlining the legislative process led him to resign as head of Italy’s government and as leader of his squabbling party.

“The alternative to populism isn’t the elite,” Renzi told supports late Sunday after unofficial results indicated he got more than 70 percent of votes cast nationwide. “It’s people who aren’t afraid of democracy.”

Throughout the day, some 2 million voters lined up at makeshift gazebos in piazzas and street corners, at ice cream parlors, cafes or local party headquarters around the country to cast ballots for a new head of the splintering Democratic Party, whose rank-and-file range from former Communists to former Christian Democrats.

Primary voting was open to anyone 16 years of age of older — the oldest voter was reported to be 105. Holding Democratic Party membership wasn’t a requirement.

John Legend Named First Recipient Of New Social Justice Award

John Legend is expected on a Massachusetts college campus this week to receive a social justice award.

The singer-songwriter becomes the first recipient of the Salem Advocate for Social Justice award when he accepts the honor Tuesday at Salem State University.

Legend is to perform and also discuss his work on criminal justice, education and other issues.

The Salem Award Foundation for Human Rights and Social Justice bestows the award to recognize those who champion social justice issues and advocate for people who are underrepresented.

This is the first year the award will be given.

Legend has won 10 Grammy Awards. He co-wrote the song Glory that was featured in the 2014 film Selma and that won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award

Dubai Becomes First City to Get Its Own Microsoft Font

Dubai has become the first city in the world to get its own Microsoft font

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, launched the Dubai Font on Sunday April 30,2017

He directed government institutions all across the city to adopt the font, saying it is considered a positive shift that will boost the emirate's competitiveness in smart technology.

"This should be a commitment from the Dubai government to guarantee the dissemination and success of this initiative on a local and global level," Sheikh Hamdan said, noting that the font is the new tool for a more tolerant and happy world.

The font, now available to more than 100 million users of Microsoft Office 365 around the world, is the first font to be created by a city and named after it.

Designed for more than 180 countries and 23 languages integrating Arabic and Latin typefaces, the Dubai Font, which will expand over the next phase to include more languages, is aimed to reflect the city's symbols of tolerance, happiness and respect, enabling people to express, communicate and connect

The Executive Council of Dubai also enabled individuals to download the font from the website: www.dubaifont.com and integrate it into the system for free.

Sheikh Hamdan had directed the General Secretariat of the Executive Council in January 2016 to work on the design of a package of electronic fonts bearing the name of Dubai to include a distinctive font for the Emirate in both Arabic and English, later expanding to 21 other languages.

Nadine Chahine, Type Director and Legibility Expert at Monotype UK, led the design team of six who worked on developing the font.

The font, available in three styles as 'Dubai', 'Dubai Medium' and 'Dubai Light', can be in italics, underlined and bold.

Twitter's user growth has stalled in the past few quarters and the company has been trying to convince advertisers that it will strengthen its user base. As part of its efforts, it has updated its product offerings including live video broadcasts from its app and launched new features to attract users.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said in an internal memo last October one of the company's missions was defined as being the "people's news network".

Twitter has made a push into news and sports on mobile devices last year and this foray could pique the interest of a media company as an acquirer, analysts have said.

India takes centrestage as vehicle exports grow in 2016-17

In 2016-17, India exported 6.02 lakh passenger cars, up 13 per cent from 5.32 lakh units in the previous year. Utility vehicles (comprising MUVs, SUVs and multipurpose vehicles) saw a 30 per cent jump in exports to 1.54 lakh units.
Cars rule the roost

“India’s basket of exports has grown to cover compact UVs and sedans while maintaining its dominance in small car exports,” says Binaifer F Jehani, Director, Industry & Customised Research, Crisil Research. “While predominantly a small car exporter, the share of this segment has reduced from 81 per cent in FY 2013 to 65 per cent in FY 2017.”

This is clearly evident in the case of mid-size sedans whose exports continue to surpass one lakh units annually over the last three years. Volkswagen and Nissan are the big players here. The same goes for compact SUVs, which are hitting the bull’s-eye both in India and overseas markets.

Ford is the largest exporter in this product range with a share of 52 per cent, followed by Hyundai, which shipped out nearly 48,000 Cretas last fiscal. Maruti Suzuki, whose Vitara Brezza is a top-seller, is looking at other markets beyond India.

“Share of UVs in overall exports has grown from just two per cent in FY ‘13 to 20 per cent four years later, says Jehani. “This is largely because of models such as the Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Creta as well as Maruti’s S-Cross and Vitara Brezza.”

Positive cost structure

The story will only grow in the coming years as emerging markets across Latin America, Africa and ASEAN will need similar vehicles. It is only natural, therefore, that the supplier competencies developed here will be leveraged to meet the needs of these markets. Customers here are extremely price-conscious and this is where the cost structure developed in India will come in handy.

This is as evident in the two-wheeler space where companies like Yamaha are looking at Africa as the next growth engine with India playing a big role. This is where the company’s recently commissioned Chennai plant will be part of the script where competitively priced commuter motorcycles can be shipped out to countries in central and West Africa.

At this point in time, some economies may not be in the best of shape thanks to the oil price crisis but it is only a matter of time before things are back in shape and this is when Yamaha will bank on India to lend a shoulder to its Africa business.

Bajaj Auto is already the largest exporter of two-wheelers from India, and Africa is one of its most important markets. It now plans to enhance its ASEAN presence with global ally, KTM, whose bikes are already being made at the Bajaj plant in Chakan and exported to the US, Europe and Australia.

TVS Motor, likewise, has been revving up its exports business and, once again, Africa will be a key play. When Bharat Stage VI norms become a reality in 2020, Honda will use its India two-wheeler base to increase exports of bikes and scooters to countries, which will be adopting similar emission norms.

The global hub

Daimler and Volvo have been using India as their hub to service truck markets in the Middle-East, Africa, ASEAN and SAARC nations. Since the time it kicked off operations in 2013, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has exported over 7,500 trucks to 33 countries with 10 more to be added this year.

“In addition, production of a third truck product family will start soon. The new sub-nine tonne vehicle will initially be designated only for exports as Fuso-brand variants,” says Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, DICV.
