Girls upto Class 12 in all Delhi government schools will get midday meals from April  2017

The authorities will earmark separate funds in its budget proposals for implementing the scheme, which as of now covers boys and girls up to Class 8.

The government has claimed that Delhi will become the first place in the country to serve midday meal upto Class 12. "The Delhi government will start serving midday meals to girls from Classes 9 to 12 from April 1 onwards. For this, it will set aside Rs. 50 crore," said Atishi Marlena, the advisor to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

She said that later on, boys of these classes would also be covered under the scheme.

The centre gives over Rs. 95-crore aid to Delhi government annually for serving midday meal from Classes 1 to 8.

"As the central government's financial assistance is only for students up to Class 8, the (Delhi) government will bear additional expenditure on the expansion of scheme in Delhi," she added.

HDFC, ICICI, Axis Bank To Charge Rs. 150 After 4 Free Cash Transactions A Month Wednesday March 01,2017

Some banks, including HDFC Bank, have begun charging a minimum amount of Rs. 150 per transaction for cash deposits and withdrawals beyond four free transactions in a month.

The new charges are applicable to savings as well as salary accounts effective from Wednesday, leading private sector player HDFC Bank  said in a circular.

The bank would also cap the third party cash transactions at Rs. 25,000 per day, while cash handling charges would be withdrawn effective Wednesday March 01,2017, the circular added.

In case of several banks, including ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, these charges came into effect early in January and are same as they were before the demonetisation move announced on November 8, while there is an increase in such fees in case of some others, including HDFC Bank, from March 1 onwards.

These charges are for cash transactions in the branches, and not through ATMs.

The move was seen in some quarters as aimed at discouraging cash transactions and furthering the digital payment drive.

For the basic no-frills accounts, maximum four cash withdrawals would continue to remain free and there would be no fees for cash deposits.

According to details on ICICI Bank website, there will be no charge for first four transactions a month at branches in home city while Rs. 5 per thousand rupees would be charged thereafter subject to a minimum of Rs. 150 in the same month.

The third party limit would be Rs. 50,000 per day.

For non-home branches, ICICI Bank would not charge anything for first cash withdrawal of a calendar month and Rs. 5 per thousand rupees thereafter subject to a minimum of Rs. 150.

For anywhere cash deposit, ICICI Bank would charge Rs. 5 per thousand rupees (subject to a minimum of 150) at branches, while deposit at Cash Acceptance Machine would be free of charge for first cash deposit of a calendar month and Rs. 5 per thousand thereafter.

ATM intercharge charges have also been re-introduced.

At Axis Bank, the first five transactions or Rs. 10 lakh of cash deposits or withdrawals would be free and charged at Rs. 5 per thousand rupees or Rs. 150, whichever is higher.

It could not be ascertained whether the public sector banks have also begun imposing such charges.

When contacted, a senior official said there has been no directive from the government to the banks regarding levy of such charges.

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover unveils the Range Rover Velar in London Wednesday March 01,2017

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled a new model at a grand ceremony in London on Wednesday March 01,2017

Range Rover Velar was unveiled  ahead of its March 07,2017 public debut at the Geneva auto show. It will go on sale globally in July, giving Range Rover its first midsize SUV

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, credited the final product to Tata Group chairman emeritus Ratan Tata.
“I would like to thank Ratan Tata. Ever since he saw the first sketch of the Velar, he became a passionate advocate of it,” McGovern said at the function.
“Design has the power to enrich people’s lives... this is a vehicle with emotionally charged DNA and unquestionable pedigree,” he added.
Described as one of the “hottest products this year”, the Velar is now open to orders from around the world, including India.
In a boost to British manufacturing, the company announced that the Velar will be built exclusively at JLR’s flagship Solihull plant in the West Midlands region of England.
“The expansion of our product range and building this British designed and engineered car in the UK is a sign of our confidence in British manufacturing. We are leading the global premium car industry with our commitment to our home market and our heart, soul and headquarters will always be in the UK,” said JLR CEO Ralf Speth.
The Range Rover brand has been heralded as Britain’s greatest luxury export since the 1970s and includes the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque.
Together they have helped transform the fortunes of the UK’s largest vehicle manufacturer, accounting for 85 per cent of all premium cars produced in Britain and contributing 10 billion pounds to the UK economy every year, JLR said.
The Range Rover Velar is the third model to be launched at the Solihull manufacturing plant in two years.
Jaguar Land Rover is giving Range Rover its first midsize SUV, the Velar.
The new model will be positioned between the smaller Range Rover Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport.

Production of all Jaguar Land Rover models at the four UK manufacturing plants directly support more than 40,000 British jobs and a further 250,000 in the supply chain, a JLR statement said.
In the past six years, the company has more than doubled its workforce to support global demand for its products. Last year, Jaguar Land Rover sold 583,313 cars — more than one every minute, 44 per cent of which were Range Rovers, the statement said.
The Range Rover Velar will be sold in more than 100 markets globally and can be ordered from later this year.
The Velar will be on display at the Design Museum in London until March 6 for customers who are eager to see the model before buying it.
The car will also form the centrepiece of a new exhibition documenting 45 years of Range Rover, ‘Velar to Velar’, which opens at the Solihull manufacturing plant at the end of March. It will be doing the motor show circuit around the world, starting with Geneva this month.

Neduvasal Hydrocarbon Project Protest - TN will not clear Neduvasal project, says CM Edappadi K Palaniswami Wednesday March 01,2017

An 11-member team of the Anti-movement for Hydrocarbon Project in Neduvasal that met Chief Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami here on Wednesday March 01,2017  expressed satisfaction over the assurance given by him and said it will explain the State government’s stand to those protesting the project in Neduvasal.
In a statement, Palaniswami said the government will not approve the project and urged the protestors to call of their agitation.
“The Chief Minister assured us that the State government will not give its permission for the hydrocarbon project in Neduvasal,” P Velu, a retired teacher from Neduvasal village and co-coordinator of the Anti-movement for Hydrocarbon Project, said after the meeting.
Velu, who led the team, met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat and requested him to pressurise the Centre to cancel the project.
The representatives explained to the Chief Minister that how people in Neduvasal and nearby villages were worried over the repercussions of the project. They feared that their ground may be contaminated by exploration efforts, rendering their land unfit for agriculture, which they depend on for livelihood.
    Evaluation stage
Velu stated that the Neduvasal hydrocarbon project was still in evaluation stage and the work had not started.
“The project has to get the commercial licence and environment nod from the State government and the Chief Minister assured us that his government will not provide those approvals,” he said.
“All of us (representatives) welcome the Chief Minister’s promise and his assurance to issue a formal statement on the government’s stand. While we are satisfied with the outcome, we will go and convey this to the protesting people in our villages. They will decide whether to continue the protests or not. We hope a good decision will be made, ” said Velu. The team also requested the Chief Minister to look into the farmers’ concerns over health hazards due to leaks caused by improper closure of oil wells in nearby villages. He cited that those wells were closed due to lack of commercial viability some years ago.
Velu stated that the oil leaks were entering the nearby agricultural lands and causing damage.
Also, two people from the family that gave the lands to the contractors of oil wells have died of cancer. Those two were engaged in agriculture activity in the lands close to the abandoned oil wells. Another lady from the family is also battling for life in a hospital in Madurai now.
Villagers suspect that the oil leaks could have caused cancer and want the government to form a medical team to examine the issues.
    CM’s assurance
Since Neduvasal farmers have expressed concerns that their livelihoods will be affected due to the hydrocarbon project, the State government will not give its permission to the project. People and farmers in Neduvasal need not worry, an official statement quoting Chief Minister Palaniswami issued after the meeting with the representatives of Neduvasal people.
The government will not support any project that will affect the livelihood of the farmers in the state. By accepting the government’s stand, people in Neduvasal should end their protests, he appealed.

NDA Govt asks all banks to provide mobile banking facility by March 31,2017

In a bid to push digital transactions, the government has asked all banks to provide mobile banking facility to all customers by March 31,2017

"What we have asked the banks to do is to enable all customers who have mobiles for mobile banking... We are asking banks to run a nationwide campaign up to March 31 to ensure that every customer who has a mobile phone is enabled for mobile banking," Electronics and IT Secretary Aruna Sundarajan told

She added this is part of the government's efforts to boost the digital payment system.

"The reason is earlier mobile banking wasn't such a priority. And therefore, many customers may not have said they want mobile banking services. But today, they want it... This is to ensure that whoever wants to do mobile banking but has not been enabled, should be enabled by March 31," she said.

Sundarajan said customers who are using UPI or BHIM app should automatically be enabled for mobile banking.

"We have said that any customer who accesses UPI or BHIM they should automatically be enabled for mobile banking because it means they want mobile banking," she said, adding the banks have been asked to enable this.

The government has been aggressively pushing payments through digital platforms, especially after announcing its demonetisation exercise on November 8.

Tibet Women's Soccer Team Denied US Travel Visas For Dallas Cup Tournament

A Tibet women's soccer team has been denied US visas to participate in a tournament in Dallas.
Cassie Childers, a coach and executive director for Tibet Women's Soccer, said that 16 members of the team were told at the US Embassy in New Delhi, India, that they "have no good reason to visit the US," during their visit on February 24,2017

They were seeking travel visas to participate in the Dallas Cup soccer tournament scheduled to take place April 9-16,2017

Childers, who is from New Jersey, said in an email from India that embassy officials did not glance at the documents nor provide any other reasons or explanations.

All but two of the 16 who visited the embassy hold Indian Identity Certificates, which are issued by the Indian government for Tibetan refugees. They function as passports even though they do not represent citizenship to India. The other two, which includes the head coach, hold Indian passports.

Four players, who live in Nepal and have Nepal passports, had interviews in Kathmandu on February 4. Childers said those cases were put under administrative processing and they have not heard a final decision.

"There is no opportunity for them to defect, and the thought of shaming themselves, their team, and their country in that way sickens them," Childers said.

"This is not an anonymous soccer team that no one would notice if they never came back."

A State Department official said they do not discuss the details of individual visa cases. The records are confidential under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

The official did say that the US Government's position on Tibet has not changed under the Trump administration and that they recognise Tibet to be part of the People's Republic of China.

Tibet is not one of the seven countries affected by the administration's travel ban on Muslim-majority nations.
The team participated in a tournament in Germany two years ago without any issues obtaining visas.

Dallas Cup's organising committee was sponsoring the tour, including flights, accommodations, gear and activities.

The team was scheduled to lead the procession during the opening ceremony at the Cotton Bowl, then play three exhibition matches against local teams during the week.

The trip was also scheduled to include sightseeing, visits to Southern Methodist University and local high schools.

In the past, the tournament has staged similar events for an Israeli-Palestinian team, a mixed South African team, a mixed Protestant-Catholic Irish team, and a team from Iraq.

Childers said they were set to become the first sports team of any sex to represent Tibet in the United States.
"This is an event of historical proportions for Tibetans throughout the diaspora. This is the biggest opportunity of these young women's lives," Childers said.

"It's an even bigger opportunity for the United States to play host to one of the most inspiring teams in the world, who have overcome so much just for the right to kick a ball."

Are YOU organising your fridge properly? The correct spot for every single item

If you keep your milk in the door of your fridge, stop at once.

A new guide reveals exactly how you should organise your refrigerator to help you find exactly what you need in an instant and to stop your food from going off too quickly.

And it reveals that you should never keep your milk in the fridge door as this is the warmest part of your fridge.

The guide, by Good Housekeeping , runs through exactly what you should keep on each shelf of your refrigerator, from top to bottom.

Raw meat and fish should be kept on the bottom shelf as it's the coldest part of the fridge, while dairy should be kept one shelf above.

Meanwhile, vegetables, fruit and salad should be stored in their original packaging in the salad drawers.

HOW YOU SHOULD ORGANISE YOUR FRIDGE

Condiments should go in the door shelves, cooked meats like salami and leftovers should go on the top shelf, dairy on the middle shelves, raw meat and fish on the bottom and lastly vegetables, herbs, salads and fruit

BOTTOM SHELF: Raw meat and fish.

This is the coldest part of your fridge, so this is where to keep your raw meat and fish - the items most likely to cause you harm if not kept properly chilled. Putting these items on the bottom shelf also reduces the risk of cross-contamination, as raw meat and fish juices could potentially leak down the sides of the fridge if placed on a higher level.

LOWER/MIDDLE SHELVES: All dairy, including milk, butter, cream and cheese.

DRAWERS: Vegetables, fruit, salad and herbs.

There's a reason why they're called the salad drawers: they really are the best place to store fruits, vegetables and salads. As the drawers don't touch the back of the fridge, these items are less likely to become frozen, which would affect the quality.

UPPER SHELVES: Anything that doesn't need cooking, for example, cooked meats such as salami and leftovers.
The upper shelves are the second warmest part of the fridge, so this is where it's best to keep food that has already been cooked or doesn't need further cooking before you can eat it.

FRIDGE DOORS: Jams, condiments and juices.
This is the warmest part of the fridge, so keep items that contain preservatives here such as opened jam jars, sauces and juice. Do not keep milk here - it will go off quickly if you do.

NDA Government Notifies Law to Make Banned Note Possession Punishable

The NDA Government has notified the law that makes holding of more than 10 scrapped notes punishable with a minimum fine of Rs 10,000.

The Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, was passed by Parliament last month with a view to eliminating the "possibility of running a parallel economy" using the old Rs 500/1,000 notes that have been demonetised.

The law, signed by President Pranab Mukherjee on February 27, also provides for a minimum fine Rs 50,000 for false declaration by persons who were abroad during the demonetisation period (November 9-December 30, 2016) and given time to deposit such scrapped notes with RBI till March 31,2017

With the law coming into force, possession of more than 10 pieces of the old notes by individuals and more than 25 pieces for study, research or numismatics purpose will be a criminal offence, attracting fine of Rs 10,000 or five times the cash held, whichever is higher.

The Act also ends the liability of the Reserve Bank and the government on the demonetised currency notes.
The government took the demonetisation decision on the recommendations of the RBI's central board to eliminate unaccounted money and fake currency notes from the financial system.

The law prohibits the holding, transferring or receiving of scrapped notes from December 31, 2016, and seeks to confer power on the court of a first class magistrate to impose penalty.
