Largest Lakes in the World


'Lake Superior' is bounded to the north by Ontario,Canada and the State of Minnesota,USA and to the south by the U.S. states of Wisconsin and Michigan.


Superior Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area - 31,820 sq mi (82,400 km2) and the world's 3rd largest  freshwater lake by volume 2,900 cu mi (12,000 km3)


Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of  North America and the only one located entirely within the USA. It is the second largest of the Great Lakes by volume 1,180 cu mi (4,900 km3) and the third largest by surface area 22,300 sq mi (58,000 km2)

Lake Huron
It is bounded on the east by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the west by the state of Michigan in the United States.
 Lake Huron is the second largest of the Great Lakes, with a surface area of 59,596 km2 (23,010 sq mi) making it the third largest fresh water lake on earth

Lake Victoria or Victoria Nyanza (also known as Ukerewe, The Eye of the Rhino)
With a surface area of 68,800 square kilometres (26,600 sq mi), Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area and also the 2nd largest freshwater lake in the world if Michigan-Huron is counted as two lakes.
 The lake has a shoreline of 4,828 kilometres (3,000 mi) and is divided among three countries - Kenya;Uganda and Tanzania.

 

Lake General Carrera/Buenos Aires
























The Lake General Carrera (Chilean side) or Lake Buenos Aires (Argentine side) is a lake  located in Patagonia and shared by Argentina and Chile.The lake has a surface of 1,850 km² of which 970 km² are in the Chile and 880 km² in the Argentina making it the biggest lake in Chile, and the fourth largest in Argentina.
The lake is known for its Marble Cathedral (marble cave) located at the centre of the lake.

 Located in the far southern tip of Chile visitors must fly from the capital, Santiago, 800 miles to the next nearest large city, Coyhaique, and then drive on challenging dirt roads 200 miles south to the lake.

Brihadeeswarar Temple பெà®°ுவுடையாà®°் கோயில்(popularly known as 'Big Temple') also known as Rajarajeswaram at Thanjavur in the state of Tamilnadu,India is the world's first complete granite temple  built in 1010 AD by Raja Raja Chola in Thanjavur

Brihadishwara Temple also popularly known as the ‘Big Temple’ has turned 1000 years in 2010.The temple stands amidst fortified walls that were probably added in the 16th century.
The 'Vimana' - or the temple tower - is 216 ft (66 m) high and is among the tallest of its kind in the world.

The entire temple structure is made out of hard granite stones, a material sparsely available currently in Thanjavur area where the temple is located.

There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock, at the entrance measuring about 16 feet long and 13 feet high.

'Brahadeeswar Temple' is one of the rare temples which has statues for "Ashta dik paalakas" (Lords of all Eight Directions) [Indra, Varuna, Agni, Eesana, Vayu, Niruthi, Yama, Kubera], each of which is a life like status i.e. approximately 6 feet tall.
Even today, the Brihadeeswarar Temple remains India's largest temple.

Eiffel Tower



The Eiffel Tower(nickname La dame de fer, the iron lady)named after its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel,  was built in 1889 marking the centennial celebration of the 'French Revolution' and stands 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall.
The tower has 3 levels for visitors -
Tickets can be purchased to ascend, by Stairsor Lift, to the 1st and 2nd levels.
The walk from ground level to the 1st level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the 1st to the 2nd level.
The 3rd  level is accessible only by elevator.
The Eiffel Tower has two restaurants: Le 58 tour Eiffel, on the 1st floor 311 ft (95 m) above sea level; and the Le Jules Verne, an expensive restaurant on the 2nd floor, with a private lift
Eiffel Tower weighs 7,300 tonnes while the entire structure, including non-metal components, is approximately 10,000 tonnes.
