2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election Nov 28,2018 - MP Goes To Polls Today Wednesday Nov 28,2018

Once a Congress bastion, Madhya Pradesh has turned into the BJP citadel and is all set to vote in another election where, critics say, there has been no visible wave — Modi or otherwise.

With no sweeping wave visible in MP polls, it’s virtually a candidate v/s candidate election where the voters are focusing on local civic issues, image and presence of candidates among them.

MP assembly elections 2018

The ruling BJP is going to the polls riding on the work done by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan has not only helped the BJP win the 2008 and 2013 Assembly polls, but also kept the party flag flying in most of the civic and rural body polls in 13 years of his rule. Shivraj is popularly known as “mama”

On the other hand, it’s a now or never contest for the Congress in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress is battling the perception of a house divided that comes together whenever polls are around. Seniors like Digvijay Singh, Rameshwar Neekhra and Mahesh Joshi took the mentoring roles this time, while leaders like Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia led the campaign charge.

Google doodle celebrates 306th birth anniversary of 'Father of the Deaf' Saturday Nov 24,2018

Google on Saturday Nov 24,2018 honoured Abbé Charles-Michel de l'Épée, also known as the "Father of the Deaf", on his 306th birth anniversary with a colourful doodle

l'Épée is known to be the founder of the first public school for the deaf. The French educator, who was born in Versailles in 1712 to an architect father, dedicated his life to the development of the lives of people with impaired hearing. He completed his education in Theology and Law before devoting himself to the service of the needy

It all began with him teaching two deaf sisters living in the slums of Paris, who communicated using their own sign language. He then found the Institution Nationale des Sourds-Muets à Paris, a school for the hearing impaired in 1760. The school was open to all regardless of their ability to pay

l'Épée then went ahead to develop a visual method that became the primer for the teaching of the deaf, hence breaking the notion that hearing impairment could be a hindrance to their education

"Every deaf-mute sent to us already has a language. He is thoroughly in the habit of using it, and understands others who do. With it he expresses his needs, desires, doubts, pains, and so on, and makes no mistakes when others express themselves likewise,” he wrote

l'Épée was honoured as "Benefactor of Humanity" by the French National Assembly for his extensive work in the filed. He passed away in 1789

2018-19 India Tour of Australia Nov 21 - Jan 18,2019 - First T20 @ Brisbane Wednesday Nov 21,2018

India are currently ranked second in ICC T20 rankings while Australia are ranked third, but despite their being one spot between the two teams there seems to quite a big difference between the two sides when it comes to on-field performances.

It’s not only now that there seems to be a gap between the two teams, it has been the case since both teams played their first ever T20 game, Australia in 2005 and India in 2006. Since then both teams have played over 100 T20 matches (110 for Australia, 107 for India) and India have won almost 65% of their matches compared to Australia who have a rather moderate success rate of 52%.

Much of Aussies’ success has come at home while India have done well no matter where the matches have been played. Australia have a win percentage of 47% in matches played at neutral venues and away from home, while India have won 48 out of 71 completed matches away from the comforts of home, which equates to a win percentage of 67%.

Jawa Forty Two Vs Royal Enfield Classic 350

With the launch of Jawa and Jawa Forty-Two, competition in sub-400 cc classic motorcycle segment has increased in the Indian market.

With the revival of the Jawa, there are now another options available for buyers who are looking for a bike that is powerful, looks retro and won’t burn a hole in the pocket. Royal Enfield Classic 350 too has been a well sought-after bike in this segment.

Following is a comparison of the two bikes based on specifications and the features

Design and Features

Jawa Forty Two

The new Jawa Forty Two motorcycle gets a completely new frame and is different from that seen on the Mahindra Mojo. The bike gets a telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the back with a gas-charged canister at the bottom. Braking is handled by a single disc brake at the front and a rear drum brake at the back. Therefore, the Jawa also gets a single-channel ABS unit in the front.

Royal Enfield Classic 350

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 utilizes single downtube chassis, using engine as a stressed member and the bike gets telescopic suspension with 35mm forks at the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers at the back. The brake on offer is a 280mm disc brake at the front and there’s a 153mm drum brake at the back. The bike gets an analogue speedometer and lacks out the electronics.

Power

Jawa Forty Two

Mahindra unveiled a 293cc liquid cooled single cylinder engine that powers the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two motorcycles. The engine has been developed from the ground up through a collaboration between the group's R&D centre in Pune and technical centre in Varese, Italy. The new Jawa produces 27hp and 28Nm of peak torque and be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The Perak, on the other hand, is powered by a 334cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder, DOHC engine which develops 30bhp and 31nm of torque.

 Royal Enfield Classic 350

The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is powered by a 346 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that produces 19.80 bhp of maximum power at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The engine on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. With heavy frame and engine, the bike can attain a top speed of 120 km/h.

Looks

Jawa Forty Two

The new Jawa motorcycle gets a rounded headlight, a curvy tank, spoke wheels and a flat seat. The engine, which was revealed by Mahindra last month, gets twin exhaust mufflers, like the older Jawa motorcycles. Apart from this, other old-school design elements like round indicators, round mirrors and telescopic fork, as seen on the Royal Enfield Classic 350, further add to the retro appeal of the bike.

Royal Enfield Classic 350

The latest Royal Enfield Classic 350 looks quite similar to its predecessor but gets a new paint scheme and body graphics. Introduced in 2008, the Royal Enfield Classic is designed on the lines of the J2 and it is a tribute to the retro look of British motorcycles in the post-World War II era. The Classic retains the quintessential classic British styling of the 1950s. The headlight casing, the fuel tank, the oval toolbox, the exhaust fins, the speedometer dials, the single-seat spring saddle, tail light assembly and the headlamp cap, all these conform to the native imagery of British motorcycles in the aftermath of World War II.

A statue of late All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J. Jayalalithaa was unveiled at the party headquarters in Chennai on Wednesday Nov 14,2018, months after criticism over an earlier statue installed in February 2018 that did not resemble the late leader.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi Palaniswamy and his deputy O. Panneerselvam unveiled the bronze statue on Wednesday at the AIADMK headquarters. Other senior leaders, ministers and AIADMK MPs were present. In February this year, the ruling AIADMK in a grand event to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of Jayalalithaa had unveiled a life-size statue of their leader. As it barely resembled the five- time chief minister, the party leaders faced a severe backlash from all quarters

The new statute has been made by sculptor Rajkumar Vudayar of Andhra Pradesh.

On Wednesday evening Nov 14,2018, the party also launched its own television news channel— J News— named after Jayalalithaa.

The Namadhu MGR daily and Jaya TV network, which have served as the party’s mouthpiece over the years, are now controlled by jailed leader Sasikala and her family. ISRO Successfully Launches India's Heaviest Rocket Wednesday Nov 14,2018

India's heaviest rocket — Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III) — carrying 3,423 kg communication satellite GSAT-29 blasted off from the Sriharikota spaceport on Wednesday evening Nov 14,2018

Precisely at 5.08pm, the GSLV-Mk III rocket on its second developmental flight began its ascent with a strong deep growl, breaking free from the second launch pad here at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC). The 43.4-metre rocket weighing about 640 tonne rushed to the blue skies with thick orange flame at its rear.

The GSLV-Mk III with a capacity to carry four-tonne satellite, is a three-stage/engine rocket with two strap-on motors powered by solid fuel. The second stage is a core liquid fuel booster and the third is the cryogenic engine.

The Indian space agency had flown a similar rocket on June 5, 2017, with GSAT-19 satellite. Prior to that ISRO had flown another rocket with 3.7-tonne dummy payload in 2014 to test its in-flight structural stability and aerodynamics.

India currently has two fully operational rockets — the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle and GSLV-Mk II — with a lift-off mass of 415 tonnes and a carrying capacity of 2.5 tonnes.
