A Muslim boy from a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)school has topped Assam Board class 10 exams.

Sarfaraz Hussain, a student of the Shankardev Shishu Niketan in south Guwahati, topped the exams by securing 590 marks out of 600.

The 16-year-old student has also won several awards in Sanskrit essay-writing and debate competitions, apart from topping the all-Guwahati Gita recitation contest two years ago.

Sarfaraz Hussain wants to be an engineer. "I am very happy. I have no words to express my happiness. I want to thank my parents my teachers and my school," he said.

"I am very happy at this news. I expected him to do well but did not expect that he will come first," Sarfaraz Hussain's father said.

Out of the over 3.8 lakh students who appeared for the Class X exams in Assam, 2.39 lakh secured pass marks, including 54,197 in first division, 96,568 in second and 88,849 in third.
