BCCI's Disciplinary Committee on Monday January 18,2016 pronounced an order in the
Indian Premier League (IPL) spot-fixing case, imposing a life ban on
Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) player Ajit Chandila and a five-year ban on
Mumbai cricketer Hiken Shah.
The Disciplinary Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) met at its headquarters in Mumbai and pronounced the orders on the tainted cricketers.
"Chandila is held guilty of misconduct and corruption within the Articles 2.1.1; Article 2.1.2; Article 2.1.3; Article 2.1.4; Article 2.2.2; Article 2.2.3; Article 2.4.1 of the BCCI Anti Corruption Code and is banned for life from playing or representing cricket in any form or to be associated in any way with the activities of the Board or its Affiliates,” a BCCI release said.
Ajit Chandila was one of 3 Rajasthan Royals cricketers who were in the middle of a spot-fixing scandal that erupted in 2013 and tarnished the image of Indian cricket
But a MCOCA court in Delhi had last year dropped all charges against Ajit Chandila, S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and 39 other individuals who had been chargesheeted by the Delhi Police
However, that decision did not impact the life bans on Sreesanth and Chavan imposed by the BCCI.
Meanwhile, the BCCI on Monday also found Shah guilty of making a ‘fixing’ approach to fellow Mumbai player Pravin Tambe.
“Shah is held guilty of committing breach of Articles 2.1.1; Article 2.1.2 and Article 2.1.4 of the BCCI Anti Corruption Code is banned for five years from playing or representing cricket in any form or to be associated in any way with the activities of the Board or its Affiliates,” the release said about the decision on Shah.
He was suspended from all forms of cricket in July last year when he was found in breach of BCCI's anti-corruption code. Shah had challenged his suspension in the Bombay High Court.
