Indian-origin politician Halimah Yacob is set to become the first woman Speaker of Singapore's Parliament next week replacing Michael Palmer, who was forced to quit over his extra-marital affair.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today said he would nominate Halimah as the next Speaker when the House sits on January 14, 2014.
Halimah Yacob(58), a former labour lawyer , a mother of five who entered politics in 2001, is a member of Parliament from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP)
