Eminem's 'Stan' added to Oxford Dictionary as word for 'obsessive fan'

The Oxford English Dictionary now defines "stan" as a noun meaning an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.
The definition is an ode to Eminem's haunting 2000 song titled "Stan," in which an unstable fan pens a letter to the Detroit rapper, ultimately committing atrocities when he doesn't hear back soon enough. The original track features a chorus sung by the British singer Dido.
He also performed the song at the 2001 Grammy Awards with Elton John taking the place of Dido.
Oxford lists the song's origin as early 21st century: probably with allusion to the 2000 song "Stan" by the American rapper Eminem, about an obsessed fan.
The song is generally considered one of Eminem's best, especially from a lyrical standpoint.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked "Stan" at No. 296 in their list in The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.  The song was also listed at No.15 on VH1's list of the greatest hip hop songs of all-time
