New mothers can look forward to better maternity benefits with Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, 2016 set to become a law shortly.
The Lok Sabha has passed a bill to increase maternity leave to 26 weeks from 12 weeks at present. It also provides for leave up to 12 weeks for a woman who adopts a child below the age of three months, and for commissioning mothers.
With this, India will soon become among the countries that offer the most maternity leave.
