BJP Names N Biren Singh As Chief Minister-Designate Of Manipur Monday March 13,2017

N Biren Singh, who left the Congress after a falling out with Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, is set to be his successor.

But the political uncertainty seemed far from over as Okram Ibobi Singh, who maintains the Congress too has numbers to form a government following an inconclusive election verdict on Saturday, is yet to resign from his post. Trinamool Congress members are also with us. There is sufficient time. Yesterday, when I met Governor, I requested her to start the process. She said she'd need my resignation. I will submit it either today or tomorrow."

But Governor Najma Heptullah said today the she was satisfied with the BJP's numbers after the party, which won 21 seats, said it also had the backing of 32 legislators. "I was satisfied that they (BJP) have support of 32 MLAs...(but) as per rules, until the present chief minister resigns, the process of next government formation cannot be started," she told
