On this day, exactly 20 years ago, a telephone call was made. It changed the way we communicate for ever and ushered in a communication revolution in India.

The then Union Telecom Minister Sukh Ram and the then Chief Minister of West Bengal Jyoti Basu spoke to each other using hand held mobile phones on July 31, 1995. It was a first for India.

The call made between Writer's Building in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and Sanchar Bhavan in New Delhi was carried over Modi Telstra's MobileNet service. That cellular call inaugurated MobileNet service in Calcutta

SMS '1' to wish your Facebook friends 'Happy Birthday!'

Making birthday greetings on Facebook even more impersonal, the social networking giant has rolled out a feature that allows a user to wish "Happy Birthday" just by texting '1' from a smartphone

The new feature works for those who have Facebook notifications pushed to their text messaging programmes, Tech Times reported

The feature is part of Facebook's SMS notification functionality, which allows users to interact with friends through text messages

So with this feature, you receive a message that one of your Facebook friends is having a birthday today.
And to leave a "happy birthday" message on their wall, all you have to do is reply with a text that says "1".

While the feature makes wishing your friends on their birthdays easier, it risks conveying your feelings in a very impersonal manner.

Real Madrid Beat AC Milan 10-9 on Penalties, Win China Edition of International Champions Cup Thursday July 30,2015

 Real Madrid International Champions Cup
A miss by AC Milan's 16-year-old reserve goalkeeper gave Real Madrid a 10-9 penalty shoot-out victory in an exhibition match in Shanghai on Thursday July 30,2015

The match was played in sweltering conditions -- 32 degrees Celsius heat and relative humidity of 60 per cent -- which saw the game stopped for regular water breaks and multiple substitutions.

The shoot-out followed a 0-0 stalemate after 90 minutes and sealed victory for Real Madrid in the China edition of the International Champions Cup.

Both teams' goalkeepers ended up having to take a spot-kick with the score still tied after all outfield players had taken a turn.

Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla confidently strode to the penalty spot before hammering the ball past Milan teenager Antonio Donnarumma to put his side 10-9 ahead.

The keepers then swapped positions with Donnarumma needing to score to keep AC Milan in the game, but the young Italian fired directly at Casilla who saved easily to seal victory for the Spanish club.

The dramatic climax was the highlight of an otherwise disappointing match in which neither side came close to scoring from free play.

Both clubs fielded strong line-ups -- Real Madrid started with the world's two most expensive footballers in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale -- but despite the talent on display there was little notable action for the near-capacity crowd at the 60,000-seat Shanghai Stadium

Note

Real Madrid had on Monday sealed a comprehensive 3-0 win over Inter Milan in Guangzhou, while on Saturday AC Milan beat city rivals Inter Milan 1-0 in Shenzhen
